The Umdasch Story
The rise of a little joinery in rural Austria to become a world concern A journey through 150 years of company and contemporary history.
Over the course of the past 150 years the little joinery has become a world concern. The foundation stone was laid by Stefan Hopferwieser on 19 February 1868. The constant development of the business areas, the entry into new markets and the continuous expansion of the service portfolio began when Josef Umdasch joined the company in 1938. Josef Umdasch “reinvented” the company.
His daughter Hilde Umdasch, who has been active in the company since 1967 and who has controlled its fate since 1990 together with her brother Alfred Umdasch, recalls: “My father was second to none when it came to arousing enthusiasm for his ideas in other people and motivating them. He succeeded in firing his employees’ inspiration and the results can often still be seen today.”
Like Stefan Hopferwieser, Josef Umdasch also wrote corporate history in his own personal way. We should like to describe the most important milestones here. Because in addition to all the pioneer work there were also many moving moments…
